MWC is a tough gig. Anyone who goes for the duration of the event and doesn’t return drained, then they’ve not tried hard enough. You have meetings from breakfast till late, and then there are numerous receptions to go to. You have more meetings at these – usually standing – just in case you’re not tired enough.
MWC is an interesting show. There’s always a lot of future stuff. For the last couple of years it was all IoT, connected cars and cities, and people trying to make sense out of 5G. This year we can expect more of the same, expect with added drones, virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence and robots. It’s always a challenge to cut through the noise about future tech and find solutions that are going to make a real difference to mobile service providers in the next 12 months.
The BSS space is no different. We hear lots of talk about BSS and digital transformation. A lot of it is great –if you’re a vendor, and you tie a customer into a 5 year deal worth several hundred million dollars. However, for the service providers, sometimes it could be a bridge too far (and too expensive). Large scale, time consuming digital transformation projects don’t make sense. The market is changing so fast that most service providers don’t accurately know where they’re going to be in 2 – 3 years’ time, never mind 5.
This is why at MWC this year Openet is going to be talking about your digital journeys. We’re going to be highlighting solutions that can deliver value in 2017. At a very high level moving to become a ‘digital’ company is basically selling many more internet driven services, using direct digital channels for sales and support, and moving to systems and processes that work the way the internet works – real-time and automated. This change is too fast, too dynamic and too uncertain for long term projects with a protracted time to value. Service providers are on a digital journey – one with many unforeseen twists and turns. When looking at upgrading BSS, the need is for quick and agile projects that deliver a fast time to value. It is these types of projects – ranging from smarter customer engagement to adjunct real-time charging for digital services – that will deliver value to service providers in 2017.
At MWC 2017, Openet will be providing demos for a range of our solutions including:
- Real-time Offer Manager
