Openet Telecom To Fulfil Orange Group’s Mediation, Content Charging And Pre-paid Needs

noviembre 20, 2002 - Openet

Dublin, 20th November 2002; Openet Telecom, a world leader in real-time charging and convergent mediation solutions, today announced that it has signed a three year framework contract under which Openet will fulfil Orange SA's data handling needs for both post and pre-paid multimedia services. This agreement marks Openet Telecom's leadership in transitioning mediation from an anonymous back-office application into a strategic, in-service broker between the network, IN and BSS systems to enable sophisticated service charging and delivery.

Openet's leading-edge solution FusionWorks™ Mediation will compliment the services the Orange Group offers to its customers, and maximise revenue generation from its multiple GSM, GPRS and UMTS networks, through the support of real-time interaction between the customer, the service delivery chain and the back office systems.

This agreement, which represents one of the most significant advanced mediation contracts this year, covers the supply and maintenance of mediation solutions for Orange companies throughout the world. Openet has already initiated projects with a number of Orange companies.

Openet Telecom won the contract following a yearlong due diligence process involving more than twelve mediation vendors. Openet's FusionWorks Mediation demonstrated superior performance in demanding proof of concept tests, greater flexibility through their business rules, and ability to actually deliver through customer references including a major Tier-1 wireless carrier.

As a true convergent solution, FusionWorks covers the entire range of mediation needs - voice, packet, IP and content. A key strength of the FusionWorks platform is its ability to support the real-time authentication, authorisation and accounting of packet-based services for any type of customer - pre-paid, post-paid, transient or roaming. Legacy mediation systems can typically only account for customer usage after-the-event.

John Rainger, CEO Openet Telecom, welcomed the agreement by stating: "The fact that Orange has selected Openet to answer their mediation needs over the coming years is a major recognition of the strength of our product and services. It also recognises that active mediation and convergent mediation are powerful and flexible tools across many network environments, whether leading edge or long-established. This further establishes FusionWorks as a world-leading, carrier-class convergent platform."

Didier Lebrat, Chief Technical Officer for Orange, said: "FusionWorks' active mediation capability presents real business benefits to Orange. It will enable each customer to select their preferred services and to be charged only for the usage of these services. It will also give our customers the opportunity to choose the way they want to be billed for specific services." He added: "The main drivers of choosing Openet and FusionWorks were the design and performance of the product together with its capacity to address all of our requirements. FusionWorks will enable Orange to meet customers' and partners' expectations, and decrease time-to-market of services, whilst reducing costs."
