Openet Telecom Launches FusionWorks Activecharge

noviembre 4, 2002 - Openet

Dublin, 4th November 2002; Openet Telecom, a world leading provider of real-time charging and convergent mediation solutions, today announced the launch of FusionWorks ActiveCharge, a real-time charging solution which facilitates new revenue streams from next generation networks such as 2.5G, 3G, broadband IP and Wi-Fi (802.11 wireless LAN) by allowing operators to bring to market value-added advanced packet-based services such as MMS, Photo Messaging, content and commerce. FusionWorks ActiveCharge enables real-time charging by any payment method for any type of subscriber - pre-paid, post-paid, roaming and/or transient - before services are authorised for delivery and control.

In the same way that Openet brought convergent mediation to the market place in 1999, it is again pushing the market forward to provide solutions to the complex challenges facing operators today. While convergent mediation is still very valid and is required by many operators, Openet has been working closely with its customers and prospects to develop the new real-time charging functionality that is required over and above what mediation solutions provide today.

"As network operators roll out their next generation of networks based upon the Internet Protocol (IP), they face new challenges which remain unsolved by today's traditional convergent mediation systems," commented Joe Hogan, CTO of Openet Telecom. "While these new networks enable the delivery of the value-added services which the network operators need to drive new revenue streams, they do not provide the whole solution required to actually bring these to market in a cost effective and revenue generating way.

"Major pieces of the complex service delivery puzzle are missing, such as the ability to verify the identity and type of subscriber, the entitlement of a subscriber to access particular services and content, providing advice of charge, how and when charging for the service takes place, to eventual authorisation/denial of the service itself and onward session/service control," Hogan continued.

FusionWorks ActiveCharge has been specifically engineered in line with these new market demands. Openet currently has two tier-1 operators using its technology to support revenue generation from advanced packet-based, content and commerce services whether delivered to pre-paid, post-paid, roaming or transient subscribers.

"Openet has long been leading the market in its move from simple passive mediation to active mediation," commented John Rainger, CEO of Openet Telecom. "Convergence is no longer enough for many operators. ActiveCharge meets their present and future needs. Openet continues to be the market leader in convergent mediation and, with the launch of ActiveCharge, takes another significant step ahead of the competition. When Openet says ‘real-time', we mean less than milliseconds, we don't believe anyone else comes close to matching this."

FusionWorks ActiveCharge is designed to work independently of, and in parallel with, its convergent mediation solution FusionWorks Mediation.
