The enterprise and IoT market presents an opportunity enabled by advances in technology, and not a technology capability. It is a fundamental expansion and evolution of revenue and value creation by a service provider. It is a strategy that evolves the market opportunity for service providers and enables them to participate in significantly expanded value chains that are enabled by advances in 5G, Cloud, the internet marketplace and the explosion of new devices and sensors.
OPENET POLICY AND CHARGING - THE KEY TO UNLOCK 5G ENTERPRISE & IoT REVENUES
Openet’s 5G charging and policy systems sit at the heart of managing and monetising 5G enterprise and IoT services.
EVOLUTION OF THE ENTERPRISE MARKET
The enterprise market has existed for many years for service providers. They have provided customised price plans and, in some cases, dedicated APN driven “mini-networks.” They have also engaged MVNE platform providers to address this market for a small number of larger enterprise customers. With 4G, cloud and the roll out of 5G the opportunity is for the enterprise and IoT market to evolve to the next level and enable game changing propositions that will include:
- Dedicated network slices and sub slices with SLAs for enterprise customers
- Partner ecosystems and enterprise marketplaces
- Private cellular networks for enterprise or MVNE operations.
Openet have a long track record in the enterprise market – for example since 2014 Openet have been delivering multi-network access solutions to enterprise customers (like Tracfone) that enable new, highly innovative, revenue models. Openet has been serving this market for many years and has anticipated this evolution in the business model – as we are truly Built for Enterprise and IoT.
DEMO
Openet 5G Manufacturing
Many of the benefits of 5G will be seen in the manufacturing sector. Service providers can facilitate those benefits and participate in the resulting value.
In our video we describe how service providers can easily enable the next generation of manufacturing with 5G.

ENTERPRISE - A HUGE SOURCE OF 5G REVENUES
Service providers are forecasting the enterprise market will generate more 5G revenues than any other sector. A study by Omdia showed that almost 73% of service providers believe that the majority of 5G revenues will be derived from B2B, B2B2C and public sector opportunities. Service providers have a long tradition of selling mobile voice and data connectivity in the form of tailored offerings to enterprise customers. 5G brings to the table real structural change – it may be considered as bringing far more than being just the latest and greatest mobile network. 5G, with the right technical and business leverage, becomes a “platform”. Developed in this way, 5G then delivers a set of opportunities that drive new revenues from a wide range of Enterprise and IoT services way beyond connectivity.
LOW LATENCY NETWORKS DRIVING LOW LATENCY BUSINESSES
Service providers can define their place at the centre of a 5G enterprise and IoT value chain. They can combine the powerful value creators of Policy and Charging in order to create, control, manage and monetise all 5G services. Policy provides the “network brain” that manages and controls the 5G network behaviour. Charging allows for infinite innovation in how monetisation rules can be established. The combination of these, what is termed PCC (Policy & Charging Control), enables service providers to quickly develop new business models, value chains and offers. Service providers can change the rules when it comes to monetisation. One example is charging for QoS and latency characteristics tied to SLAs for industrial IoT. Other opportunities include building partner ecosystems to provide a wide range of 5G enterprise services that can be bought, traded and activated in real-time via a cloud-based enterprise market place. This provides a platform for growth in 5G enabled B2B2X services. Just as networks get faster, so to do the systems and business processes that support service providers’ businesses.
WHY USE OPENET POLICY AND CHARGING TO DRIVE 5G ENTERPRISE AND IOT OFFERS
Cloud-native, Multi-cloud
Openet’s software runs on any combination of Private, Hybrid or Multi-Cloud and is fully supported on AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud to provide the maximum choice and best fit for service providers
Microservices
Service providers can deploy a range of microservices and grow the solution in line with their requirements
Open 5G Core
Openet’s 5G policy and charging is open by design. Our digital APIs ensure interoperability with other systems used by service providers and enterprises.
Unmatched system agility
Openet’s solutions are proven to enable a faster time to market for new offers and services, when compared to traditional telecoms billing companies
We work with the world’s leading SI companies
Our SI partnerships allow us to leverage skills and scale to provide solutions, such as cloud based enterprise market places, with Openet’s policy and charging at the heart of these solutions.
B2B2X: PARTNER ECOSYSTEM AND ENTERPRISE MARKETPLACE
Openet’s charging and policy systems, along with our 5G Network Exposure Function can be at the heart of a 5G partner ecosystem. Service providers can provide a cloud based platform to sign up partners whose services may then be delivered over a 5G network. Different policy and charging rules can be used to manage QoS and pricing of services. The service providers can then sell these services, along with the required 5G delivery model ‘on demand’ from an app store style enterprise marketplace. The click, purchase, deploy approach to delivering a range of 5G enabled services, comprising of partners’ offers and 5G fully managed connectivity on demand places the service provider at the centre of the 5G enterprise value chain.
IOT
Openet’s data management system (Openet Data) is proven to cost effectively collect, manage and refine the extraordinary volumes of data that billions of connected devices will generate. Openet already collects 28 billion records a day for a current customer and is proven to collect 1 trillion events per day on Microsoft Azure public cloud. IoT data is refined and then passed to Openet’s charging system to apply the relevant charging rules (usage based, subscription based) and our policy system can control the 5G QoS down to the individual IoT device level. As well as providing data management, charging and policy to support IoT in existing BSS stacks, Openet also provides an end to end Digital BSS – Openet Digital Business Platform – which service providers can implement on greenfield sites if they set up a separate business to deliver IoT services.
PRIVATE CELLULAR NETWORKS
Many enterprises are keen to have their own private 4G and/or 5G network. Service providers / SIs / cloud vendors are supporting them by providing the infrastructure and managing these networks. Openet provides cloud based appliance or edge-cloud level 5G policy and charging systems to enable combined 4G/5G network control and monetisation to enterprises running private cellular networks.
