Netherlands Operator Leverages Openet’s Solutions to Better Monetize Network Traffic

noviembre 24, 2010 - Openet

Openet, a provider of Subscriber Optimization Software to tier one communications and media service providers, announced that one of Netherland’s leading operators has deployed the company’s solutions to control bandwidth and implement network policies for millions of subscribers, thereby increasing network visibility.

According to a press release, the Netherlands operator implemented Openet’s (News - Alert) Policy and Charging Controls “PCC” architecture and fully compliant 3GPP PCRF Policy Manager Platform.

With the help of Openet’s Policy Manager and its associated solutions, the service provider is not only able to better monetize network traffic but is also able to offer customers a range of data plans. The service provider is now able to mitigate the impact of high data use upon its network, said officials with Openet in a press release.

In addition, the Netherlands operator is also implementing fair usage policies for all subscribers and segmenting data services into tiers of service as defined by network speed, data usage and other usage conditions.

This has enabled the carrier to offer more flexible service plan options and improve its control over subscriber traffic.

According to the release, all Openet solutions were deployed in tandem with Cisco's GGSN. Some of the control variables used to optimize network performance includes application monetization for network control, network usage load, and fair usage. With application monetization, operators can assign pricing for specific applications.

The network usage load determines what kinds of content/applications/services are being accessed across the network and helps in regulating according to individual data plans. The fair usage helps in determining whether a subscriber is below, at or above network quota allotments and charges accordingly

Officials with Openet said that the above controls variables in place, the carrier is able to direct as well as manage network traffic, especially for specific kinds of network usage, and at the same time is also taking roaming subscribers into account.

Mike Manzo, CMO at Openet, said in a statement, "With the new level of control this carrier has seized over its network, subscribers can expect a more personalized experience tailored directly to them and their own network needs. From live video streaming to gaming, the operator is now able to offer different speed tiers and allocate bandwidth as needed, leading to maximum customer satisfaction and network efficiency."
