Openet upgrades Policy Manager for network transparency and control

The latest version of Openet Policy Manager 4.0 was announced today. Enhancements have been made to provide more network transparency and to enable dynamic control of network resources. The solution also provides a PCRF solution with improved configuration and monetization capabilities—both meant to complement Openet’s Online Charging portfolio and Profile Manager software.
This announcement may help Openet build on its momentum, recognized by Infonetics’ Shira Levine, who ranked the company as a top player in “Policy Management, Worldwide and Regional Market Share, Size and Forecasts.”
This Openet announcement also furthers the company’s strategy to promote its Subscriber Optimization Software approach to integrating mediation, subscriber data management, policy management, and real-time charging. In managing mobile broadband environments, this software-based approach is supposed to give operators the mechanisms to not only collect enormous volumes of real-time transactional data, but to create what Openet calls “actionable insight” into subscriber usage and its impact on overall profitability of individual services.
The overall message is one of becoming “subscriber- and device-aware” enough that telcos actually can act more like marketers, retailers and managers of content. The ultimate goal is to help customers participating in multiscreen viewership to move and consume seamlessly among devices and locations without having to re-enter passwords or user IDs when consuming the content they want. And to enable operators to grasp the usage and to charge according to the value derived from that ability.
To help operators get their arms around customer usage and service data, Policy Manager 4.0 features three critical upgrades: an enhanced decision core (through a flexible logic engine that enables operators to rapidly deploy and easily adjust policy rules); Improved, pre-populated configuration options for easier administration; and expanded support for next-generation networks and services, including LTE and IMS (through extended support for application layer interaction, via the Rx interface.
All of these features are supposed to help operators create highly scalable and available environments, where more intelligence exists at the network edge. This will help accommodate the need to process thousands of transactions per second (TPS) as well as equip operators with what they need to match consumers to the content they want but often have problems finding in a complicated multi-device market.
