DUBLIN, Ireland – August 11, 2010 – Openet, the leading provider of Transactional Intelligence for the world’s largest and most innovative network service providers, today announced a Brazilian Convergent Operator as a key policy customer win enabled by Cisco’s next generation Cisco Developer Network (CDN) Program. This customer win showcases continued momentum from Openet’s long-standing relationship with Cisco, spanning more than 10 years with successful customer engagements across the globe for Orange Group, Turkcell, Mobilkom Austria and a major USA wireless carrier, amongst others. Openet’s participation in the CDN builds on its history of interoperability with a variety of Cisco products, including Cisco’s SCE, CSG, ASR5K and eGGSN packetcore solutions.
The operator will be deploying Openet’s FusionWorks™ Policy Manager, a leading Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) offering. When combined with the Cisco Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) solution through Openet service integration partner Promon Logicalis, Policy Manager provides a fully integrated and tested Policy and Enforcement solution. This integrated solution will enable the operator to control its network resources using real-time applications of complex rules based on subscriber, service or usage context in a next-gen environment. The integrated deployment is the latest in a series of joint policy management deployments as a result of the Cisco and Openet relationship. This builds off pre-existing Openet partnership program engagements with Starent and Cisco, which are now classified under the newly formed Cisco Developer Network program.
The deployment showcases Openet’s growing commitment and support to the CALA market through its growing network of partners and expanded regional presence, which now includes dedicated offices and resources in both Brazil and Mexico. Openet’s resource dedication in CALA coincides with validated market demand for policy management and charging due to the regions rapid growth in prepaid data usage. Broadband services reached an impressive 12 million connections in the second quarter of 2010, and are driving Brazil’s convergent operators to enhance customer loyalty through new personalized services. These services create bandwidth, prioritization and service challenges that are best overcome through an integrated policy management solution.
“This win expands our growing list of global customers in policy and further erodes the market share held by the incumbents in these markets. This times well with our growth in Latin America, where policy management is poised to emerge from an early adopter phase and will soon be the technology of the moment,” said Alex Troise, CALA Channel and Alliances Director at Openet. “By looking ahead to where the Brazilian market is going and preemptively deploying a robust policy management solution with Openet and Cisco, our customer is putting a stake in the ground for subscribers and competitors alike and is uniquely positioned for success in data service delivery.”
In addition to staying ahead of the competitive curve, the operator also plans to leverage Policy Manager for cost reduction. Specifically, OPEX expenses will fall by leveraging Openet’s policy capabilities to control traffic at an application level. This means that the provider can operate the network more efficiently, stay in compliance with subscriber contracts and SLAs and effectively monetize any over-the-top traffic that crosses the network.
Openet has secured more than 11 policy customer wins globally in the last 12 months, and is pleased to announce this joint win with partners Cisco and Promon Logicalis in the Brazilian market.
