Openet Telecom extends its lead in charging innovation by announcing support for the Diameter Credit Control Application (CCA) - an emerging standard for on-line charging - enabling real-time credit control on the delivery of next generation services such as premium content, download and messaging services and future IMS/SIP-based services such as VoIP and video streaming.
Dublin, Ireland and Reston, VA, 9th March 2005;Openet Telecom, a world leader in advanced mediation, real-time charging and network-edge rating, announces that recent inter-operability test have confirmed that Openet’s FusionWorks platform now fully supports the base Diameter and CCA emerging standard for on-line charging.
This development is in response to demand from equipment vendors who are incorporating support for Diameter CCA into their core equipment offerings. Openet has recently concluded interoperability tests of its Diameter CCA against some of the leading core infrastructure vendors to demonstrate the combined strength of their next generation content-aware capabilities with a proven, Diameter CCA-enabled credit control server from Openet. Further tests are planned in coming months with equipment vendors as they make their pre-release offerings available for test.
Diameter CCA provides real-time credit control for the delivery of next generation services such as premium content, download and messaging services and future IMS/SIP based services such as VoIP and video streaming.
Openet’s Diameter CCA support is compliant with the IETF’s AAA working group’s draft specification for Credit Control Applications enabling the deployment of open standards based charging solutions. Built upon its RFC3588-compliant Diameter Base Protocol components, this capability demonstrates Openet’s long-standing commitment to delivering leading edge standards-based technology for deployment in Tier 1 operator environments. Openet has also aligned its Diameter CCA capabilities to deliver online charging solutions compliant with the charging descriptions TS 32.225 and TS 32.296 as defined by the 3GPP standards organization for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).
The Openet Diameter CCA component is fully integrated into the FusionWorks ActiveCharge platform. ActiveCharge is a leading real-time charging platform that can be deployed in the core of an operators network to manage the in-session charging for next generation services to all of their subscribers regardless of payment type.
Commenting on this announcement, John Rainger, Openet CEO, stated “In leading the way in delivering the Diameter CCA, Openet has again shown its pedigree in rapidly embracing the evolution of charging standards and responding quickly to the challenges facing network operators. We see this early adoption approach as another important reason why operators are consistently choosing our charging platforms”.
Openet’s Chief Technical Officer and founder, Joe Hogan, remarked “Network equipment is increasingly capable of making charging requests for the services it is delivering. Diameter CCA offers a consistent way for these various devices to make their charging requests towards the charging platform, thereby reducing the cost and time of implementing new services. Openet will continue to track and contribute to the evolution of the Diameter CCA draft to full adoption in the industry”.
