16th January 2002 Openet Telecom, the world leader in convergent mediation, today announced the signing of its first partnership in China with Prient Corporation, one of China's leading system integrators, as part of the company's global expansion strategy.
Openet, has already won deals across Europe and the USA, including with a major Tier-1 wireless carrier in North America and was recently named in a Wall Street Journal survey as one of the companies in which European venture capitalists would most like to invest. By partnering with Prient, Openet is fulfilling its strategy of developing relationships with local companies already established in the rapidly expanding telecommunications market in the Asia Pacific region. In this case, Prient has a strong market base in China.
"By 2004, over 50% of mobile users in the world will be located in the Asia Pacific region. China is already home to the world's largest mobile operator," said Barry Murphy (CEO Openet Telecom). "It is crucial for Openet to take a strong position in this, the fastest growing wireless market in the world."
Openet's activities in China follow a very successful meeting in September, when Mr. Murphy met with China's Premier Zhu Rongji in Ireland to discuss joint opportunities for Openet in China's rapidly developing ITC industry.
Openet has also recently held a series of seminars for senior management of Communications Service Providers (CSPs) including China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Netcom. Prient adds Openet to a prestigious list of existing partners, including Cisco, Sun, Oracle, Adobe, Apple and Inktomi.
